The Library Needs Volunteers!
Student volunteers have been fantastic helpers in the library. While getting to know their library space and discover the different titles available, they have been helpful to me by putting away books, setting out attractive picture books for the little Kindergarten early readers, and helping to keep their library looking its best. This is a great opportunity for students to earn a Vista point, enjoy the surroundings, and meet new friends.
Parent Volunteers Needed!
Would you be able to lend some of your valuable time to give a helping hand to the library? The library needs help in the following ways:
prepping books for shelving( repair torn pages and sorting), taping and stamping books to get them ready for processing, shelving books, creating book displays, making signage so students can locate materials on their own, helping with kindergarten book exchange, helping the Scholastic Book Fair committee during the twice- a -year event. If you are able to give a bit of your time, it would be much appreciated. Please contact the school and ask for Miss Stokes :)

During the summer...pendant l'été....
According to an article written by author Ellen Schwartz in the May/June issue of The Costco Connection, children who do not read during the summer, especially reluctant readers and at-risk students, may lose up to three months of reading progress. But reading as few as 6 books over the summer break could help to maintain reading levels.
To keep the positive reading momentum going and progress throughout the summer:
- match up a book to a film or a summer activity;
- find non-fiction books that connect with your child's summer interest/activity, such as baking, crafts, or animals and "creepy crawlies";
- visit the local library - there may be summer reading clubs to connect with new friends who share similar reading tastes;
- set aside some time to "unplug" and read - try a family night for reading( your example conveys the importance of reading to your child, when he/she sees you reading for pleasure it is infectious) or playing old-fashioned board games;
- make sure your child has exposure to a variety of of reading materials -comic books, poetry, novels, newspapers, and magazines as well as trying out the ebooks ;
- encourage your child to take the lead and read aloud to you for a change!
The Art Gallery of Windsor offers a storytelling and artmaking class! The next one takes place on June 7th at 4 pm "Our home and Native Land" Mural. Telephone 519- 255-6770 for details
